Dr. Ray Reynen Honored with the Elanco / Dr. Brian MacNaughton Memorial Award
Mississauga, Ontario (September 16, 2026) – Elanco Canada is pleased to announce that Dr. Raymond Reynen has been named the recipient of the 2026 Elanco / Dr. Brian MacNaughton Memorial Award. This prestigious award recognizes Dr. Reynen’s significant and impactful contributions to organized bovine veterinary medicine in Canada at a national level, particularly his tireless advocacy for mentorship and continuing education.
The Elanco / Dr. Brian MacNaughton award honors a veterinarian for significant contributions to the Canadian Association of Bovine Veterinarians (CABV) and to organized veterinary medicine in Canada at the national level. This award commemorates Dr. Brian MacNaughton, a visionary Ontario bovine veterinarian who advocated for a national bovine veterinary organization to unite regional associations and amplify their collective voice for the benefit of the profession and related industries.

Dr. Reynen’s work to ensure accessible continuing education for all Canadian bovine practitioners has significantly advanced their field."
Dr. Reynen’s distinguished career spans nearly four decades. After earning his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (1983) and his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (1987) from the University of Guelph, he spent over 30 years in clinical practice. Most notably, he served as a partner at Heartland Veterinary Services in Listowel, Ontario, from 1991 to 2018, where he developed a reputation as a foremost expert in dairy health management.
Throughout his career, Dr. Reynen has been a pillar of organized veterinary medicine. He has been actively involved with the Ontario Association of Bovine Practitioners (OABP) since 2015, serving as President in 2019. At the national level, Dr. Reynen served on the CABV/ACVB Board of Directors from 2017 to 2024, including a term as President in 2022-2023.
Dr. Reynen’s impact on the profession is perhaps most visible through his work in continuing education and mentorship. He was instrumental in the formation of the bi-annual Pan-Canadian Rounds - a virtual, recorded educational series accessible to bovine veterinarians across the country. He also championed mentorship awareness on the CABV/ACVB Board, using the association's Bulletin to highlight real-life examples of successful mentorship in bovine practice.
In his current role as Technical Services Manager for Cattle with Merck Animal Health Canada, Dr. Reynen continues to mentor veterinarians nationwide. He regularly hosts educational teleconferences and virtual focus meetings, sharing his vast expertise in dairy cattle nutrition, transition cow management, and facility design. His dedication extends to on-farm consultations and producer education as well.
Dr. Reynen’s commitment to the profession, his passion for sharing knowledge, and his inspirational leadership make him a truly exceptional recipient of the Elanco/Dr. Brian MacNaughton Memorial Award.

This award is named in memory of Dr. Brian MacNaughton, an outstanding bovine veterinarian from Ontario, who had the vision of a national bovine veterinary organization that would represent the interests of bovine veterinarians in matters of a national scope. Dr. MacNaughton passed away in September of 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer.
