Merck Technical Services Veterinarian


Position Location: Alberta or Saskatchewan

Reporting to the Team Lead, Cattle Veterinary Technical Services, in the Farm Animal Business Unit, the Technical Services Veterinarian is one of the veterinarians responsible for providing technical support to our Company’s Animal Health field team and our customers for our vaccines and pharmaceuticals; primarily focused on the bovine product portfolio.

The Technical Services Veterinarian will be based in Alberta or Saskatchewan. The majority of the time will be spent working in Western Canada with a primary focus on the Beef Industry.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Provides medical and scientific information (technical support) about our Company’s Animal Health products as requested by all veterinary clients, cattle producers and our Company’s Animal Health marketing and sales management;
  • Contributes to the development and delivery of technical training programs as coordinated between other Technical Services Veterinarians, Product Managers, Regional Sales Managers and the Business Unit Director;
  • Reports cattle product complaints according to our Company’s Animal Health procedures, and leading investigations related to reported product complaints;
  • Travels on client calls with and without field representatives on a regular basis to support the Cattle team with responsibilities mainly for Western Canadian beef segments; however, some support for all of Canada's beef, dairy and equine segments will be required;
  • Develops trial protocols, monitors and summarizes clinical and marketing support trials specific to beef cattle health and performance;

The Technical Services Veterinarian works closely with the other Farm Animal Technical Services Veterinarians as well as the Marketing department and Regional Sales Managers to maximize our Company’s Animal Health bovine product portfolio’s full potential. There is opportunity to develop a niche expertise in a beef cattle product category or disease management area.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Degree in Veterinary Medicine, with veterinary license in Canada;
  • Previous veterinary practice (private or industry or academia) with emphasis in beef cattle medicine and production within Canada, for a minimum of 3 years;
  • Ability to think and act strategically;
  • Ability to understand, integrate and communicate scientific concepts to producers and veterinary professionals accordingly.
