Reporting to the Senior Vice President Governmental Affairs, the Director, Global Animal Welfare will manage Saputo’s animal welfare policy and program, as well as support our Corporate Responsibility Team in advancing pillars of the Saputo Promise.

In this role, you will implement and support Saputo’s animal welfare policy at every level of the organization and across all jurisdictions where Saputo operates (Canada, Australia, US, UK, and Argentina).

How you will make contributions that matter:

- Assess, manage and support the implementation of the Saputo’s animal welfare and policy and program initiatives, and lead projects aligned with the delivery of the Saputo Promise;

- Advocate and oversee animal care and welfare with various stakeholders, suppliers, third party suppliers and through all our jurisdictions;

- Working with our Corporate Responsibility team, manage animal welfare performance reporting for both internal use and external stakeholders

- Collaborate with dairy industry stakeholders and various internal departments to advance animal care standards/Codes and their validation through animal care assessment programs with the goal of meeting the expectations of our customers and consumers;

- Support our internal milk procurement and quality assurance teams across divisions (Canada, Australia, US, UK, and Argentina) and act as subject matter expert for all issues related to animal welfare and milk production;

- Create opportunities to increase engagement and share best practices on animal welfare;

- Support our corporate responsibility team and senior management regarding farm sustainability initiatives/objectives affecting our milk suppliers;

You are best suited for the role if you have the following qualifications

- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, licensed to practice in Canada

- At least 2-5 years experience in Clinical dairy practice (cattle and small ruminants)

- Strong knowledge of dairy cattle and goat production systems and management

- Strong background and experience in animal welfare.

- Experience working with governmental regulatory stakeholders a strong asset

- Excellent communication and collaboration skills necessary to engage with a broad network of internal and external stakeholders, including giving presentations, preparing written submissions, advocacy/lobbying.

- Strong relationship building and conflict resolution skills demonstrated

- Experience in agricultural sustainability, an asset

- Willingness to travel (approx. 10-20%) with a strong emphasis on work-life balance

- Fluent in English (written and spoken), French or Spanish would be an asset
